Fall Deceleration Lanyard Slowstop provides a means of FALL DECELERATION for the user when used along with a full body Fall Arrest Harness such as FW-3.
This lanyard along with a general full body harness (such as FW-3 or FW-5) becomes part of a Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) and meets or exceeds ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2007 requirements. It has a work load of 300 lbs. and is made of 1″ yellow nylon webbing and is available in 2′, 4′ or 6′ lengths.
As part of a Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS), Slowstop shall be used along with other products for work positioning, climbing, or rescue on oil platforms and drilling rigs.
In a fall, its design provides slow elongation of its length to provide deceleration. The lanyard shall be connected to the upper D-Ring on the back side of the full body harness.
Per ANSI requirements a fall arrest harness should be anchored in a manner that limits free fall to the shortest possible distance of 6 feet or less. The use of Energy Absorbing Personal (EAP) lanyard such as the shock absorbing Lewis Lanyard Slowstop is highly recommended to reduce fall arresting forces.
However shock absorbers can elongate up to 3-1/2 feet. This elongation distance must be considered when choosing a tie-off point. Please refer to Calculating Total Fall Distance (TFD) on this website to see example of TFD calculations.
