Pulling Grips Banding Instructions:

The following are common pulling grips banding instructions for all 3 Banding Options.

For specific type of banding instructions please refer to the Instructions PDF document.

Danger Falling Objects

Safety is always No. 1.

Make sure no one is under the line as it is being pulled through the blocks & crown.

DO NOT stand below or near the line, pulling grips or cable under tension. Severe injury or death could occur. KEEP BACK!

This Instruction is for Metal Wire Mesh Grips only, DO NOT use metal bands on Aramid Fiber Grips!

Wire Mesh grips are made of metal wires such as galvanized steel, stainless steel, thinned bronze, etc.

Pulling Grips Ouchless Aramid Fiber GripsAramid fiber grips such as Ouchless Lewis Grips, are made of plastic covered aramid fibers. Do not use metal bands on aramid fiber grips.

Be sure that the right size range grips are being used for the line or ope being pulled. For Example, for 1-3/8″ cable, use a 1″ to 1-1/2″ range grip.

Inspect the grip for wire abrasion or broken wires.

A pulling or suspension grip showing any signs of wire fraying, broken wires or distorted hardware should be immediately removed from service & discarded.

Make sure the wire rope or cable is clean and free of grease and oil in the area that will be loaded into the grip.

A high grade degreaser and heavy duty disposable towels are recommended.

For banding the grips, make sure to use electric tape only.

DO NOT use duct tape. Duct tape’s gummy adhesive causes binding and fouls up the pull operation.

Using electric tape, tape the end of the cable or wire rope before inserting into the grip so that the sharp ends of the cable or wire rope do not damage the grip’s mesh interior.

Fully Load the Grip

Fully load the cable or wire rope into the grip

When loading the cable or the wire rope into the grip, be certain the cable, or wire rope is inserted all the way into the grip so the grip is fully loaded into the area right next to the pulling eye of the grip.

Do Not Band or Tape the head (eye side) of the grips. This increases the diameter of the head unnecessarily and could create restriction points.
